The Bridge Builder
An old man going a lone highway, came at the evening cold
and gray,
To a chasm vast and wide and steep, with water rolling cold
and deep.
The old man crossed in the twilight dim—the sullen
stream held no fears for him.
But he turned when safe at the other
side and built a bridge to span the tide.
“Old Man,” said a fellow pilgrim near, “You’re
wasting your strength with building here.
Your journey will end with the ending way; you never again will pass this way.
You’ve crossed the chasm deep and wide, why build you this bridge
at eventide?
The builder lifted his old gray head: “Good friend, in the path I have
come,” he said,
There followeth after me today a youth whose
feet must pass this way.
The chasm which was as naught to me, to that
fair-haired youth may a pitfall be;
He, too, must cross in twilight
dim—good friend,
I am building this bridge for him.” -

Happy SPRING from all your friends at the Hallsville
Education Foundation. During 2012, the Foundation awarded $20,964.10 to the Hallsville ISD to fund 10 teacher-initiated
grants and $3,500 in $100 mini-grants to 35 teachers. In addition, 22 dual credit course scholarships
were awarded. The Foundation Board of Directors hopes to increase funding for teacher grants and scholarships
to $70,000 for the 2012-2013 school year. Your generosity over the past 11 years has enabled us to raise
nearly $500,000 for Hallsville students and teachers. We are so thankful for the support you have given
to make the dream
of an education foundation to support our schools a reality.
